An Atlantic City shooting that wounded three teens inside an Airbnb apparently was sparked by a fight over a girl.

Jamal Miller, 21, was arrested Monday, more than three weeks after he and another man allegedly opened fire inside the home in the 1500 block of Michigan Avenue.

"What's up, lil' cuz," Miller said before he started shooting through a rear window at the three victims who were in the first-floor bathroom at about 8:48 p.m. March 21, according to the affidavit of probable cause obtained by BreakingAC.

As victims fled the home, a second shooter out front started firing at those who fled, the affidavit states. He has not been identified.

A ShotSpotter alert brought patrol officers to the home.

The apparent target was shot in the back, and suffered a gunshot wound to the spine, the affidavit states.

He was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center's City Campus by police.

Medical personnel took the other two victims.

The target of the shooting dated Miller's girlfriend while the alleged shooter was previously incarcerated, a witness told police, according to the affidavit.

It was not clear what Miller's prior charges were or where he was incarcerated. There was no record under his name and birthdate in a search of the public records.

This is his first time in the Atlantic County Justice Facility, jail records show.

Miller now faces 19 charges, including 10 counts of aggravated assault, one for each of the people inside the Airbnb. There is also one count of endangering the welfare of a child for wounding a 17-year-old who was struck in the hip, the affidavit states.

Another teen was shot in the abdomen.

That victim previously had an altercation with Miller the day before the shooting.

"I'm looking for your boy," Miller allegedly told the unnamed victim.

According to the affidavit, video surveillance obtained by police clearly showed Miller and the victim outside the store, which is not identified by either name or location.

Miller used a social media account to send a series of messages discussing firearms, the affidavit states.

The person he was messaging was not identified. But the affidavit claims Miller sent a message saying he had an "XD-40," referring to a .40 caliber firearm.

Police recovered six such shell casings in the rear of the residence.

Three 9mm shell casings also were found at the scene, along with a 9mm semi-automatic firearm, 26 cartridges of live 9mm ammunition, a 30-round capacity extended magazine and a large magazine spring, the affidavit states.

Violent Crimes Unit detectives saw Miller leaving a residence in the 1400 block of Michigan Avenue on Monday, and the SWAT team was called, Fair said.

Miller was taken into custody without incident.

The investigation is still active, Fair said.

The victims were attending a party, according to police. But someone close to the case previously told BreakingAC there was no party at the time of the shooting.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Violent Crimes Unit at 609-347-5766. Information may be texted anonymously to tip411 (847411), beginning the text with ACPD.
