Maryland man crashes into concrete barriers of the Egg Harbor Toll Plaza on the ACE Saturday

The driver sustained 'serious injuries' and was transported for medical care, police said.

A Maryland man remains hospitalized with serious injuries after a crash on the Atlantic City Expressway Saturday.

According to New Jersey State Police, troopers responded to a motor vehicle crash on Saturday, April 19 at 2:44 a.m. The incident occurred in the westbound lanes of the ACE near milepost 17.6 in Hamilton Township, Atlantic County, police said.

NJSP stated that, according to a preliminary investigation, a Kia Sportage was traveling westbound, approaching the Egg Harbor Toll Plaza when it struck the attenuator, then impacted the concrete curb and barrier. Ennis Thompson, 23, of Oxon Hill, Md. was the driver, police said.

Thompson sustained serious injuries and was transported by emergency services to a local hospital. The crash remains under investigation.
