Atlantic City is prepared for snow that is expected to continue into Wednesday morning, officials said during a brief news conference Wednesday.
The forecast was calling for about four to six inches, although Atlantic City is on the line where six to eight is possible, Deputy Emergency Management Coordinator Mike Famularo said.
No decisions had been made about closings or late openings, the mayor said. But any announcement will be made online. Residents can sign up for alerts at acnj.gov.
"Safety is paramount in any decision that we make," Mayor Marty Small said.
Public Works employees hit the streets at 6 a.m., making sure the roads were prepared for the snowfall, Assistant Public Works Director Ahmid Abdullah said.
Crews were coming in at 4 p.m. and would be on standby for any issues or concerns.
Abdullah invited residents to call Public Works with any problems at 609-347-5700.
The Atlantic City Police Department's inclement weather vehicles were serviced and ready for the winter weather, Capt. Kevin Fair said.
A Code Blue is in effect, with police ready to transport anyone who needs shelter to the Rescue Mission or other warming station.
"If you do not have to travel, please stay indoors," Fair said.
As is the case during weather events, the Wave Parking Garage at Mississippi and Fairmount avenues will provide free parking for all residents and visitors through 3 p.m. Wednesday.
Free parking is on the second floor of the garage during this time.
All residents and visitors are encouraged to utilize the Wave Parking Garage to keep the streets empty for the Public Works Department.
