A Pleasantville man accused of killing his pregnant girlfriend and then trying to cover is up was indicted for murder and tampering with evidence this week.

Boris Lainez Rosales, 26, called 911 at about 2 a.m. Dec. 3, saying his live-in girlfriend fell down about 12 stairs and was unresponsive.

The two lived in the basement of the home on West Edgewater Avenue.

Although the woman was found at the bottom of the stairs, there was no blood there, the affidavit states. Instead, there were bloodstains elsewhere else in the room.

Blood-stained clothing was found in Lainez Rosales' car and a blood-stained bat was in the backyard, according to the charges.

The basement and defendant smelled of bleach, according to the affidavit, which led to the tampering charge.

Leslianette Quintana Betancourt, 25, was "beaten essentially from head to toe," Chief Assistant Prosecutor Seth Levy told during Lainez Rosales' detention hearing.

The defense did not contest detention at that hearing, and Lainez Rosales remains in the Atlantic County Justice Facility.

Quintana Betancourt had trauma to her face, arms and abdomen, according to the report.  Blunt-force trauma and a ruptured placenta contributed to her death.

BreakingAC previously reported a witness telling investigators that the couple was heard arguing during the night, starting around 9:30 or 10 p.m.

The witness tried to go down to the basement to check on them at about 11 p.m., but was escorted back up the stairs by Lainez Rosales, who said everything was fine, the witness said.

The witness was not identified. But the home is owned by Dania Rosales, property records show.

Lainez Rosales, whose first name is spelled Borris in some records, was previously charged with assaulting two police officers and endangering a child in June of 2022, court records show.

He allegedly spit on one officer and hit him in the face, and kicking another who tried to take Lainez Rosales to a holding cell. He also allegedly threatened an officer and a family member who was trying to calm him down.
