A Mays Landing couple died in a crash caused by an allegedly drunken driver this weekend.
Levon Woods, 25, of Atlantic City, was heading east on Route 552 in Maurice River at about 4:15 a.m. Saturday, when he crossed into oncoming traffic, and collided head-on with a vehicle driven by Thomas Splinter in the area of milepost 19.4, State Police Sgt. Charles Marchan said.
Splinter, 57, and his front-seat passenger, were killed.
Splinter and Nancy Orellana-Splinter, 29, were just married in September, according to posts on her Facebook page.
Woods, who sustained moderate injuries, was issued traffic citations for driving under the influence, reckless driving and unsafe lane change, court records show. He also had a careless driving charge from Jan. 29.
The crash remains under investigation. No additional information was released.
Orellana-Splinter leaves behind a young son to whom her new husband was a wonderful father figure, according to a GoFundMe set up to benefit him and help the family. Splinter had three children.
