An Atlantic City man caught with an alleged arsenal in his vehicle now faces more charges after his home was searched.
David Barabin, 47, has been jailed since Dec. 22, after he was stopped in the first block of South Florida Avenue just after 2 a.m.
A white powdery substance on his jacket led to a K-9 search that revealed heroin, guns and ammunition in the vehicle.
But the car was not the only place where Barabin was keeping weapons and parts, according to new charges.
Barabin’s apartment on St. James Place was searched Dec. 26. Vice detectives found two guns, an airsoft pistol with the safety tip removed, two black pistol holders and a pair of handcuffs, according to the charges.
The search warrant was obtained after Barabin made a call from the jail asking someone to retrieve items from inside a safe.
Barabin already had 26 pending charges, and has served four prison terms, the longest seven years, according to information released at his second detention hearing.
Since he already was detained during his first hearing last month, Barabin consented to detention, defense attorney John Bjorklund said.
“He wants to deal with all these matters in a global manner,” Bjorklund said.
The consent was without prejudice, giving Barabin “the opportunity to argue for his release at the appropriate time,” Bjorklund said.
He will be moving for a speedy trial.
