Can the Philadelphia Eagles Go all the Way?

  • News from our partners

Fortunately we’re not Philadelphia Eagles’ fans here. Why do we say fortunately? Well, because we have been asked to write this article not too long before the Eagles take on the Los Angeles Rams in the NFL Divisional Round and as every sports fan knows, there’s no bigger sin than jinxing your own team.

In fact, so powerful is the curse of jinxing that, were we Eagles’ fans, we would have refused to even consider taking on this article, let alone writing it. As it is, our allegiance to no particular NFL teams makes us neutral and neutrals are allowed to potentially jinx things.

Plus, if the betting odds are to be believed, by the time you read this article you’ll find it fanciful that anyone in the world thought it possible that the Eagles might not beat the Rams in the Divisional Round (how’s that for some prime jinxing ey!?)

So, taking it as granted that Nick Sirianni’s men prevail over the Rams, what are their chance of going all the way and lifting the Vince Lombardi trophy in New Orleans this year? Read on to find out…

The Eagles Momentum Looks to be Peaking at the Right Time

The very nature of the playoffs means that we quite often end up with the best team not winning the Vince Lombardi trophy. The best way to measure who the best team in any given sport is, is to test them out over an entire league campaign, where the cream rises to the top.

Winning the playoffs isn’t about consistency though, it’s about peaking at the right time and that’s what the Eagles appear to be doing. Not only are their performances as a team improving, but so too are individual performances.

With the Super Bowl just around the corner, the timing of the Eagles improvement in form could be all important.

(The Eagles win against the Packers seemed to suggest that they are peaking at just the right time.)

The Eagles Have the Perfect Blend of Offense and Defense

The performance of Saquon Barkley and the ever improving Jalen Hurts – a man who appears back to his very best – have stolen the headlines in Philadelphia in recent weeks. The main headline for football fanatics however is that the Eagles defense has steadily been getting more watertight in recent weeks.

The old saying is that offense wins games and defense wins championships. The best recent example of that is the Kansas City Chiefs who have made a habit of winning the Super Bowl by being incredibly hard to break down and devastatingly effective in offense.

As things stand, the Eagles look like they could be on course to emulate their coutnerparts from Kansas in that regard.

The Eagles Have an Easy to Access Fuel Source

In 2023 the Philadelphia Eagles were supposed to beat the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVII. They had peaked at just the right time, they looked fresher and they had better options than their opponents all over the field. Yet they lost.

How does that help them now though? Well, it gives them the perfect source of fuel to propel them to greater heights this time round. Whilst Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs are fuelled by the prospect of making history, Nick Sirianni and the Eagles are fuelled by a sense of injustice and unfulfilled destiny.

The old wounds of that 2023 playoff loss could and should be used as a powerful motivator by the Eagles playing squad and coaching staff. They will have been thinking about putting things right for nigh on two years and now is their chance to do just that.

(As an added source of motivation the Eagles roster should be watching the highlights of this game on repeat.)

Will the Eagles Actually Win the Super Bowl?

No. Don’t be silly. Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs will be the ones waltzing around Caesars Superdrome with the Vince Lombardi trophy in February. Whilst the Eagles did win the Super Bowl back in 2018, traditionally they have massively underperformed on that front, whereas the Chiefs have vastly over performed.

We’re big believers in stats and tactics, but we all have to admit that at times there are greater forces at play in sports that we just can’t explain. Call it a witch’s curse, fate or the will of the sporting gods, but we just cannot see the Philadelphia Eagles winning the Super Bowl this season, not whilst this current incarnation of the Kansas City Chiefs exists anyway.
