An Atlantic City teen is being held after he allegedly was found running with a after a shots were fired near the Civil Courthouse early Friday morning.
A ShotSpotter alert brought police to the 100 block of N. North Carolina Avenue at 2:24 a.m., Capt. Kevin Fair said.
The area is down the street from the Civil Courthouse and just two blocks from City Hall.
Responding officers found evidence of gunfire, Fair said.
The scene was being secured when Officers Patrick Yates and Ridge Gradel tried to stop the teen, according to the report.
The 15-year-old fled, running directly toward Officer Moustafa Maarouf.
The suspect refused to stop running, and threw a handgun that he was holding, Fair said.
He was eventually taken into custody, and found with 90 bags of heroin, according to the charges.
The weapon did not have an identifiable serial number, and was equipped with a laser site and extended magazine, Fair said.
The teen is charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon while committing a drug offense, possession of heroin, possession with intent to distribute, possession of a defaced weapon, possession of a large-capacity magazine, resisting arrest, obstruction of justice and tampering with evidence.
The gun will be sent to the State Police laboratory for comparison to evidence found at the scene, which could lead to more charges.
The juvenile is in the Harborfields Juvenile Detention Center.
