An Atlantic City man and woman were arrested Wednesday in the killing of a man found fatally shot Sunday night on the overpass to Atlantic City High School.

William A. Tucker, 52, is charged with murder and various weapons offenses in the death of Vaughn Lyons, who was found lying face-down in the area of 1400 N. Albany Ave., on the Route 40 overpass.

Sabrina Hearns Evans, 30, allegedly drove him from the scene and tried to help him flee the area.

Their relationship was not clear.

Lyons, known as Bill to many, was found by a motorist, who called 911 at about 11:20 p.m. Sunday.

He had several gunshot wounds, and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A witness saw Tucker and Lyons get out of an SUV, and then heard several gunshots, according to the affidavit of probable cause obtained by BreakingAC.

Tucker then got back into the vehicle and Hearns Evans drove him back to her Carver Hall apartment, where she packed up several trash bags, according to the report.

The two then fled on the Atlantic City Expressway for Philadelphia, the affidavit states.

It appears Tucker took the wheel at some point.

He was issued a summons for assault by auto at about 3:20 a.m. Monday on Route 42 northbound in Bellmawr, Camden County, court records show.

Tucker also was issued several motor vehicle tickets that include driving under the influence, driving without a license and driving with an open container or unsealed cannabis.

The details of that case were not immediately available.

A warranted search of the Carver Hall apartment Wednesday, led to two handgun magazines loaded with a mix of ball and hollow-point ammunition, assorted pills believed to be pressed fentanyl, more than a half-ounce of suspected cocaine, a bottle of inositol powder often used as a cutting agent in drug distribution and three digital scales, the affidavit states.

The two were charged with drug offenses, including possession with intent within a school zone.

Tucker has several prior convictions, dating back decades, making him a certain person prohibited from legally possessing handgun ammunition.

Tucker and Hearns Evans were arrested on warrants, but have not yet been listed in the Atlantic County Justice Facility.

Details of their arrest were not released.

It was not clear when they would have their first appearances in central judicial processing.

Both will then be held pending detention hearings.

The Prosecutor's Office’s Major Crimes Unit and the Atlantic City Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit are investigating the killing.
