Those venturing into Atlantic City have seen the wind turbines.
But how many know what's going on inside.
For instance, the turbines create energy for a critical service that keeps waterways clean.
The Jersey-Atlantic Wind Farm supplies power for the Atlantic County Utilities Authority Wastewater Treatment Plant, which treats wastewater from thousands of residents and visitors before it is safely released into the ocean.
This process ensures the waterways are open for recreational swimming, fishing and more.
Curious visitors can stop by at noon every Windsday ... uhhh ... Wednesday in July and August for free open house tours of the wind farm and wastewater treatment plant located at 1801 Absecon Blvd. in Atlantic City. Tours last approximately one hour, and reservations are not required.
“Visitors are welcome to stop in and learn more about renewable energy and the role it plays in powering our facility,” ACUA President Matthew DeNafo said. “The tours are educational, fun, and something different for visitors to do down the shore.”
