A fire burned a vacant commercial building in Pleasantville early Thursday morning.

No injuries were reported.

Firefighters were called to Old Turnpike at about 4:27 a.m.

Acting Battalion Chief Stan Kolbe arrived to find a two-story commercial  brick building with heavy fire visible through the roof, acting Fire Chief Keven Vanegas said.

Firefighters initially tried an interior attack but quickly transitioned to defensive operations due to rapidly deteriorating conditions inside the structure, Vanegas said.

A second alarm was requested at about 4:48 a.m., bringing additional resources to the scene.

Units from Linwood, Northfield, South Jersey Transit Authority, Ventnor, Atlantic City, Egg Harbor Township an Atlantic County Fire Coordinators responded.

The Atlantic County fire marshal, N.J. State fire marshal, Atlantic County Hazmat, Tricare and police from Egg Harbor Township and Northfield also were on scene.

The fire was under control by about 7:50 a.m.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
