EHT police rescue unconscious driver from fiery crash

  • Public Safety

Three Egg Harbor Township officers helped free an unconscious driver from a fiery crash last week.

Oli Uzzaman, 32, was traveling east on Delilah Road at a high rate of speed at about 7:30 p.m. Friday, when he lost control of his 1993 BMW sedan around 6010 Delilah Road, and went into a spin, Capt. Cherie Burgan said.

The vehicle crashed into a tree in the northern shoulder.

Uzzaman was unconscious and trapped as the vehicle caught fire, according to the report.

K-9 Officer Michael O’Hagan and Officer Dominik Newman were first on scene, and were able to get Uzzaman out of the heavily damaged vehicle, while Officer Matthew Perkin extinguished the spreading fire, Burgan said.

Uzzaman was treated on scene by Egg Harbor Township EMS and AtlantiCare Paramedic’s for traumatic injuries, and then taken to the Trauma Unit at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City.

He is listed in stable condition following surgery, Burgan said.

The Cardiff Volunteer Fire Company also assisted at the scene.

Delilah Road between the intersections of the Black Horse Pike and English Creek Avenue was shut down for about four hours while the crash was being investigated and the roadway cleared.

Officer Nathan Lahr is investigating.
