  • Crime-Courts

The vice chairman of the Atlantic City Housing Authority Board of Commissioners pleaded guilty to cheating at a casino.

Eli Gbayee, 40, was sentenced to probation earlier this month, after pleading guilty to a disorderly persons cheating.

He originally was charged with a third-degree crime for using "any trick or sleight of hand" to win about $6,625 in ill-gotten gains in the incident at the Ocean Casino Resort in 2023, court records show.

Gbayee lives in Stanley Holmes Village, which is part of the Housing Authority oversight. He is banned from the casino during the term of his probation.

He must pay $7,325 in restitution, with $2,000 due at his sentencing March 11. He pled the same day.

The Housing Authority did not respond to numerous requests seeking comment.

Gbayee has remained on the Board of Commissioners, where he first served as assistant treasurer in 2019.

His attorney did not return a request for comment.
