Forest Fire Service conducting controlled burn in Atlantic City

  • Breaking

Atlantic City residents who notice smoke and flames coming from the Marina District on Friday should not worry.

The New Jersey Forest Fire Service is working with Atlantic City police to clear weeds and brush from the area across from Brigantine Homes, Fire Chief Scott Evans told BreakingAC.

“We’re trying this technique to see if it works,” he said.

The heavy smoke seen from throughout the city concerned residents. But it is fully controlled, Evans said.

The area previously was the spot of a homeless encampment, which was cleared out in January of last year.

The city is trying to avoid something similar happening again it seems.

“We’re trying to clear out all the brush in that area so we can see out there,” Evans said.

The burn started at about 11 a.m. and was expected to last until about 2 p.m.
