Jim Whelan recovering from surgery

State Sen. Jim Whelan is recovering in a Pennsylvania hospital after surgery Tuesday morning. Whelan was at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital to have a growth removed from his kidney, he said in a statement released to media Tuesday. "The operation was successful and he is expected to be released before the end of the week," according to the release. "The doctors are optimistic that there will be a full recovery in a matter of weeks."
