Atlantic City police arrest two, recover 5,200 bags of heroin

  • News
More than 5,200 bags of heroin were recovered and two Atlantic City men arrested after tips from concerned residents led police to the 1300 block of Baltic Avenue. Detectives Brian Hambrecht and Will Herrerias on Friday stopped two men who were leaving a motor vehicle as a part of an investigation into these tips, Sgt. Kevin Fair said. The driver, Michael Stewart, 58, was found in possession of seven bricks of heroin, or 350 individual bags, according to the report. The passenger, 46-year-old Peter Whitted, was found in possession of 11 bricks of heroin, or 550 individual bags of heroin. Both men were arrested and Hambrecht got a search warrant for the car after his K-9 partner, Nikki, indicated there were drugs in the vehicle, Fair said. Inside the vehicle, they found 87 more bricks of heroin inside the vehicle, or 4,350. The total recovery was 105 bricks, or 5,250 individual bags. Both men were charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance and possession with intent to distribute. They were taken to the Atlantic County Justice Facility. Anyone with information about the distribution of drugs is asked to call Atlantic City police at 609-347-5858. Information can be texted anonymously to tip411 (847411), beginning the text with ACPD.
