A man was arrested and an officer injured in a gun call Tuesday. On June 12, 2018, at 5:12 pm, officers responded to the 4000 block of Ventnor Avenue for a report of a man with a handgun and a large group in a fight. Officer James Miltenberger responded to a call after 5 p.m. of a man with a handgun and a large group fighting, Sgt. Kevin Fair said. Miltenberger tried to stop Kenneth Landis Jr., who matched the description of the man with the gun. Landis ran, and Miltenberger chased him with Detective Howard Mason. During the chase, Miltenberger, a 24-year veteran of the department, was injured. Mason stopped to help, and Landis ran down an alley, Fair said. He later surrendered to Mason. While searching the area for a discarded weapon and those involved in the initial altercation, detectives found an 18-year-old man from Atlantic City in the rear of a house on the unit north block of Annapolis Avenue, trying to hide. He was found to have a small laceration on his side, Fair said. The teen was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center's City Campus for treatment. Miltenberger was also taken by ambulance to the hospital, where he was treated and released. Landis, 19, is charged with obstruction of justice and disorderly conduct. He was released on a summons. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Atlantic City police at 609-347-5766. Information may also be texted anonymously to tip411 (847411), beginning the text with ACPD.
