A woman was rescued from a car that was partially submerged in the water following a two-car crash Saturday morning.
Police were called to the scene on the Black Horse Pike just inside the Atlantic City border, but Egg Harbor Township officers were called first, Atlantic City Police Sgt. Kevin Fair said.
EHT Officer Brett Fair arrived to find that one of the cars had left the road and was partially in the water, according to the report.
Two people who escaped from the car told the officer that there was another person still inside.
Atlantic City Officer Martina Martin, who had just finished her shift, stopped to help EHT Officers Brett Fair and Patrick Daly in the water, police said.
An 88-year-old woman was inside with her upper body under water, Kevin Fair said. She was not breathing and had no pulse.
The officers pulled her out and began CPR, Fair said.
EHT Officer Katie Cantell assisted with CPR until paramedics arrived, according to the report.
An automated external defibrillator revived the woman.
She was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center's City Campus, where she is in critical condition.
The driver of that car, a 52-year-old Atlantic City man, and a 77-year-old female passenger had minor injuries and also went to the hospital.
The crash happened after a 25-year-old Galloway Township woman lost control of her vehicle and struck the center divider, and then the car next to her, Fair said.
That vehicle left the roadway, rolled over and came to rest in the marsh.
The investigation is being led by Officer Ivan Lopez. Anyone with information is asked to call Atlantic City police at 609-347-5744 or text tip411 (847411) beginning the text ACPD.
