Atlantic City man arrested in knifepoint robbery

  • News

An Atlantic City man was arrested fleeing an armed robbery Tuesday, police said.
Jermaine Whitehurst allegedly brandished a knife and stole cash and other items from the Super Mini Market at about 2:30 p.m.
He then bound the clerks hands with tape from the store before fleeing, Lt. Kevin Fair said.
Officer T.J. Moynihan responded to the call, and got a description of the suspect and the direction he fled, according to the report.
Officer Peter Calabrese found Whitehurst in the 200 block of Bacharach Boulevard, Fair said.
Whitehurst, 22, fled with police chasing him. He was then arrested without further incident with help from Officers Thomas Gilardi and John Pyle, Fair said.
He had items stolen from the store and a large knife, according to the report. He also allegedly discarded a roll of tape while running from the officers.
Whitehurst is charged with robbery, witness tampering, terroristic threats, theft, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, obstruction of justice and resisting arrest.
He was taken to the Atlantic County Justice Facility, but he was not listed there Wednesday.
The Atlantic County jail does not release mugshots, under an order from the Atlantic County prosecutor.
