Teacher at EHT childcare center 'violently' handled children, police say

  • News

A preschool teacher at an Egg Harbor Township childcare center was arrested Thursday after she was allegedly caught on surveillance violently handling several children.

Angela Capella, 26, is charged with four counts of second-degree endangering the welfare of a child, Capt. Heath Per said.

She was released on a summons under bail reform, he said.

Capella, who lives in Galloway Township, has been fired, and the business has been cooperative in the investigation, Per said.

While police did not release the name of the establishment, BreakingAC confirmed it is Kids Choice Academy on the Black Horse Pike.

One mother detailed an attack on her then-2-year-old daughter, who she said was just trying to nap.

Capella ripped the sleeping child from her cot, and threw her with force back onto the plastic cot, the mom said.

BreakingAC is not naming her to protect the juvenile victim's identity.

"Angela Capella picked my daughter up seven times in 26 minutes from her bed to throw her while she was simply laying down trying to nap," the woman said.

"I hope this evil woman gets every second in jail that the judge can hand to her and (she) never handles another child," she said. "My daughter deserves justice."

A family member of another victim told BreakingAC the child had bruises from the incidents.

Capella's LinkedIn lists her as lead preschool teacher at Kids Choice since August 2020.

The investigation was conducted by Officer Alekhine Pahang and Detective Katrina Cantell.

Capella was released on a summons in accordance with bail reform, Per said.

Anyone with information concerning the incident is asked to call the Egg Harbor Township Criminal Investigations Bureau at 609-926-4051.
