Atlantic City man arrested for attempted murder

  • Crime-Courts

An Atlantic City man is charged with attempted murder in the shooting of a 21-year-old in July.

Wesley Briscoe, 19, is accused of shooting the man just after 1 a.m. July 9, on the Boardwalk at Montpelier Avenue, Sgt. Paul Aristizabal said.

The victim, whose name was not released, was found wounded and taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center’s City Campus.

A warrant was issued for Briscoe on Aug. 18, after an investigation by the Violent Crimes Unit.

Officer Latray Butcher was working a fixed traffic post Wednesday at the intersection of Texas and Atlantic Avenues, when he saw Briscoe walking east on Atlantic Avenue, Aristizabal said.

Butcher recognized Briscoe as the wanted man and radioed Briscoe’s direction to responding units.

With assistance from Surveillance Center personnel, Briscoe was tracked to the first block of south Missouri Avenue, where he was stopped by Lt. Kevin Fair, Sgt. Mohammad Kaiser and Officer Marquez Jones.

He was taken into custody without incident.

It does not appear anything was made public about the shooting or Briscoe until after his arrest.

Briscoe is charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
