An Atlantic County jail inmate is charged with attempted murder after a brutal beating of another inmate last week, BreakingAC has confirmed.
Shakur Aabid, 28, of Atlantic City, allegedly attacked Hassan Robinson as the two awaited court appearances Sept. 13.
Robinson, 42, also of Atlantic City, is currently hospitalized in a medically induced coma, his family told BreakingAC.
The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office confirmed a pending investigation into the incident last week.
Aabid was charged Tuesday, court records show.
The family was told the assault was caught on video, which BreakingAC confirmed. Witnesses say it was unprovoked.
Aabid, whose name also has been listed as Abid, was in the jail on charges that include robbery and prohibited weapons, according to court records.
He was sentenced to four years in prison in 2014, for robbery with significant bodily injury, records state.
Aabid was also one of eight people arrested in an Atlantic City drug investigation in 2020.
Robinson was jailed for failure to register as a Megan’s Law offender. The case stems from a 1994 case, when Robinson was just 14.
A family member told BreakingAC that he was sent paperwork that indicated he no longer had to register.
Robinson was listed as released from custody the night of the attack, after he was hospitalized.
