Reports of a drug deal in front of an Atlantic City business led to the arrests of a man and woman Friday.
Police were called to the 1500 block of Atlantic Avenue at 5:11 p.m., according to the report.
On November 4, 2022, a man and a woman were arrested for drug possession and distribution after fleeing from police.
Officers Ivan Cruz and Keith Jordan responded and observed two individuals matching the description of the suspects.
As the officer approached, the woman started walking west while the man headed east, Sgt. Paul Aristizabal said.
Cruz caught Crystal Gillis in the first block of South Kentucky Avenue and arrested her after a brief struggle, according to the report.
Gillis, 20, of Atlantic City, allegedly was found with 40 wax folds of suspected heroin totaling 10 grams in her hand. She also had a scale used for weighing drugs.
Tamaj Bennett, 24, also of Atlantic City, was found a short distance away in the 1400 block of Central Avenue by Officer Robert Reynolds, Aristizabal said.
The officer saw Bennett discard items under a dumpster, according to the report. There Reynolds found two brings of suspected heroin totaling 32 grams.
Both were charged with possession, possession with intent to distribute, possession within 500 feet of a public building, resisting arrest and obstruction.
Gillis was additional charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. She was found to have an outstanding warrant for her arrest and was taken to the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
Police did not say what the warrant was for, but records show Gillis had an arrest for weapon possession in July.
Bennett was released on a summons.
