Atlantic City man had stolen handgun and drugs in home, police say

  • News

An Atlantic City man on probation on burglary and eluding charges was arrested this week with a stolen gun and various drugs, police said.

A months-long investigation led detectives to Nah'Jajuan Ellis' Columbia Avenue home Thursday, Sgt. Paul Aristizabal said.

Ellis, 21, was detained while leaving the home in the 2000 block, as police executed a search warrant, according to the report.

A 9mm handgun reported stolen from Delaware was found along with more than two ounces of heroin, about seven grams of suspected crack cocaine and two pints of Promethazine syrup, according to the charges.

Detectives also found unused wax folds stamped "White House," which has been responsible for several overdoses in recent weeks, Aristizabal said.

There were also numerous items used for packaging drugs, along with about $8,565 in cash believed to be the proceeds of illegal drug sales.

The investigation was led by Detective Eric Evans with help from the FBI Atlantic City Safe Streets Task Force.

Ellis is charged with unlawful possession of weapon, possession of a weapon during a drug-distribution offense, maintaining a drug-production facility, receiving stolen property, money laundering and possession of drug paraphernalia, along with two counts each of possession, possession with intent to distribute and possession with intent to distribute within 500 feet of a public park.

Ellis was sentenced to five years' probation in March 2021 for burglary and resisting arrest, court records show. He was among 95 people charged in the rioting and looting that happened in Atlantic City in 2020.

Ellis also has a pending receiving stolen property charge out of Egg Harbor Township from November, and drug charges out of Atlantic City from last June.

He is in the Atlantic County Justice Facility pending a detention hearing.
