A Pleasantville teen with a pending gun charge was arrested with drugs and a gun as part of a crackdown in Atlantic City, according to new charges.
Syhier Young, 19, was among three people arrested Thursday night in two cases that were part of police response to complaints of drug activity and violence in the area.
Anthony Savage and Kassandra Beebe were arrested around 8:19 p.m., after detectives saw the two in a drug sale from the front porch of an apartment complex in the first block of South Iowa Avenue, just across from the Public Safety Building, according to the report.
Detectives Christopher Dodson, Eric Evans, Alberto Valles, and Kevin Perez under the supervisor of Sgt. Darrin Lorady were watching the area and converged on Savage after seeing him holding cocaine, Lt. Kevin Fair said.
Savage, 38, dropped the cocaine when he saw the officers, and was arrested, according to the report.
Beebe, 33, who had entered the building, returned and was found in possession of several drugs, Fair said.
A warrant was later served at Beebe’s residence, where police recovered more than 24 grams of methamphetamine, 52 bags of heroin, three grams of cocaine and prescription pills, according to the charges.
Both were released on summonses.
The detectives were conducting surveillance in the 500 block of New York Avenue when they saw Young clutching a handgun, Fair said.
Young immediately turned around when he saw the direction, and started to walk away, according to the charges.
Young turned a corner behind a building and the detectives were able to quickly catch up to him, Fair said. A they turned the corner, they saw Young holding the handgun and throwing it before he fled.
Young was arrested after a short pursuit, and found in possession of a small amount of cocaine. The handgun was recovered and found to be loaded.
It was the second time in less than 10 months that Young was found with a gun, according to court records.
Young was arrested Sept. 9,. and charged with several crimes, including possession of a ghost gun and receiving stolen property.
It was not clear when he was released or what the terms were. But he was arrested earlier last month on a charge of prowling for drugs, and released on a summons.
Young is now in the Atlantic County Justice Facility on drug and weapons charged, along with obstruction and resisting.
