A Ventnor man accused of fatally striking a pedestrian, then fleeing the scene and hiding his car behind a motel had his first court appearance via video Wednesday afternoon.
Anthony Colon, 23, was arrested Tuesday, three days after Nikita Petrecca, 30, was struck just after 1 a.m. on the Black Horse Pike in the area of Fox Place in the West Atlantic City section of Egg Harbor Township.
Colon, whose license was suspended, then allegedly hid the car in a parking lot behind the Howard Johnson's on the pike.
The mother of two from Quakertown, Pa., was pronounced dead at the scene.
A second person was struck by another vehicle that stayed at the scene, acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Diane Ruberton said. Those injuries were not life-threatening, and the person's name has not been released.
Colon is jailed on charges of causing death while suspended driving, endangering an injured victim and leaving the scene of an accident causing death.
His bail is set at $150,000 cash.
