EHT fugitive in shoplifting, officer assault is arrested in A.C.

  • News

A Pleasantville man who allegedly injured an Egg Harbor Township officer as he fled a shoplifting in January has been arrested.

Anthony Colon, 30, was identified as a shoplifter by employees Jan. 15, at the CVS on Tilton Road.

When Sgt. Brett Fair tried to confront him, Colon ran to his still-running vehicle, according to the original report.

Fair tried to detain him, but was pinned between the open door of his vehicle and the door frame as Colon sped away, police said.

Fair was able to free himself and fell into a grassy area of the parking lot, according to the report.

A woman with him was taken into custody. Her name was not released.

Colon was arrested Thursday when Atlantic City Detectives Brian Hambrecht, Nick Berardis and Chris Smith spotted him riding his bicycle, township Sgt. Thomas Rocco said. He left his bicycle and ran before police captured him.

He is in the Atlantic County Justice Facility pending a detention hearing.

Colon joked about police looking for him in a Facebook post two days after the incident.

Colon borrows from Meek Mill.

More than a week later, he posted photos celebrating his infant daughter.

Colon previously served a prison term for leaving the scene of a 2016 crash that killed a pedestrian in the township's West Atlantic City section.

Nikita Petrecca, a 30-year-old mother of two from Quakertown, Pa., was struck on the Black Horse Pike in the area of Fox Place just after 1 a.m. Aug. 27, 2016.

Colon, then 23, hid the vehicle in a parking lot behind the Howard Johnson’s not far from the scene.

He pleaded guilty to leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash resulting in a death, and was given a four-year term with two years of parole ineligibility.
