Police looking for driver in fatal Toms River hit-and-run

  • News
Police are looking for a driver who struck and killed a man in Toms River on Christmas Day. Keith Elliot, 45, had left his home on Messenger Street on Christmas morning, with plans to take the bus to spend the holiday with family in Lacey Township, according to the investigation. He was then struck in the intersection of Highland Parkway and Herflicker Boulevard just after 10:30 a.m. When rescue workers arrived, Elliott was dead and no lifesaving efforts were able to be performed, according to a news release from the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office. Elliott's injuries were consistent with a hit-and-run. Investigators searched the area Sunday and were back Monday trying to find physical or video evidence to help track down the driver. The Ocean County Prosecutor's Office, Ocean County Sheriff’s Department CSI, and Ocean County Medical Examiner’s Office were all called to the scene to assist in the investigation. Detective Proto, from the Prosecutor's Office, and Toms River Traffic Safety Officer Adam Koeppen are leading the investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact Adam Koeppen at 732-349-0150, ext. 1350 or email at
