Jermaine Goines, 51, of Toms River, was struck as he walked east on Route 40 in Mays Landing at about 9:12 p.m. July 10.

The flatbed truck fled the scene, but a witness called 911, and was able to give a description of the truck and its direction of travel, according to the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office.

Hamilton Township police found the truck about three miles away, and Schellinger was taken into custody. He was the only person in the vehicle, according to the report.

The investigation was conducted by the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Crash
Investigations Unit and Hamilton Township police.
