Niklaus McClaran
Melissa Cooper
An Egg Harbor Township man accused of robbing a 7-Eleven with his girlfriend posted a telling photo on Facebook just hours earlier.
Niklaus McClaran and Melissa Cooper, both 28, were arrested shortly after the 3 a.m. robbery of the convenience store in the township's Farmington section.
Officer Paul Janetta was on patrol in the area when he saw a man and woman run to a vehicle, police said. Moments later, the clerk called police saying the couple brandished a knife and fled with an undetermined amount of cash.
Janetta followed the vehicle he saw and stopped it in the parking lot of Davenport School. An investigation led to the couple's arrest, police said.
Just a little more than three hours earlier, McClaren changed his Facebook cover photo to a cartoon showing a man and a woman both wearing black ski masks and each holding a gun.
"U got me bae?" the man asks.
"I got u boo! Lets get it!!"
In the caption McClaren wrote, "This is me and Melissa McClaren (tagging Cooper's Facebook profile) for sure. I know she has my back no matter what."
Both are now charged with robbery, terroristic threats, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon, theft and conspiracy.
They were sent to the Atlantic County Justice Facility on $75,000 full bail each.
