Marine Mammal Stranding Center needs help rehabbing shark-bitten seal

  • News
Brigantine's Marine Mammal Stranding Center just got a late-season tenant. The Sandy Hook Gateway park rangers called the center Thursday, after finding an injured gray seal on their beach, the center reports on its Facebook page. The yearling female had multiple wounds from a shark. Hair loss led those at the center to think she's the same seal that has been spotted off Brigantine and Sand Hook over the past three months. Good news is that her weight is excellent and she has a healthy "BAD (gray) seal attitude," the center writes. The bad news is that late summer is when repairs are done to the seal room. That work is extensive and costly with lots of water-damaged walls to replace. The center is asking for donations to help with food, medicine and repairs. Those who want to help can go to
