A stolen New Jersey State Police car was used by a suspect to pull over two people and steal money, police said.
The unmarked car that was parked in the driveway of an unnamed trooper’s North Brunswick residence was reported stolen at about 9:40 a.m. Sunday. Inside were several uniforms, two issued weapons and other equipment.
Before the report, the car already had been used in two robberies and the theft of gas from a station, police said.
A truck driver told police he was stopped at 6:50 a.m., while driving south on the New Jersey Turnpike in around milepost 74.7 in South Brunswick. During the interaction, the suspect stole cash from the driver, according to the report.
At 7:19 a.m., the suspect fueled the troop car at a gas station on St. George Avenue in Colonia, then left without paying.
The car was then used to pull over a cab at the Woodbridge Center Mall in Woodbridge. The driver reported cash stolen as well.
No weapons were seen during any of these incidents, police said.
State Police are working with the North Brunswick Police Department and local law enforcement.
The white, unmarked Chevrolet Tahoe was found late Sunday morning in North Brunswick. Two issued weapons and several uniforms had been taken.
