Teen arrested in theft of unmarked NJ State Trooper's vehicle

  • News
State Police arrested a teen for allegedly stealing an unmarked trooper’s vehicle, then using it in several crimes. The car was reported stolen from the trooper’s driveway Sunday morning at about 9:40 a.m. By then, State Police say, it already had been used in four crimes. At 5:45 a.m., a truck driver was stopped by the vehicle as he drove south on the New Jersey Turnpike near Interchange 10, police said. The suspect tried to get the driver to pay him for a speeding fine, but the driver refused and the suspect drove away, police said. That was reported the next day. About an hour later, the suspect again pulled someone over and robbed them of money. Then, he went to a gas station on St. George Avenue in Colonia and left without paying. About 10 minutes later, a cab was stopped at the Woodbridge Center Mall and cash was stolen. The SUV was found hours later, but the suspect and the two State Police-issued weapons inside were gone. Police arrested a 16-year-old boy on Wednesday, after forensic evidence recovered during the investigation led them to him. Later that day, they found the two weapons in the area of Dogwood Court in New Brunswick. The teen is charged with burglary, two counts each of unlawful possession of a weapon and robbery, three counts f impersonating a law enforcement officer, and theft by unlawful taking. He was taken to the Middlesex County Juvenile Detention Center
