A veteran Somers Point police officer arrested in 2015 for discharging his weapon during a domestic violence incident has been indicted.
Samuel Clerico, 49, of Egg Harbor Township, allegedly showed his police identification to get into the Absecon hotel room of the female victim Dec. 15, 2015.
The next day, he threatened the woman in Egg Harbor Township, pointed his duty weapon at her and discharged it during an argument, according to the charges.
He was arrested that day, and posted the full $2,500 cash bail without making it to the Atlantic County Justice Facility for a mug shot and processing.
Two days later, Clerico was arrested again on charges of witness tampering and assault on Sgt. Howard Dill. He was released on his own recognizance.
But things still didn't end there, according to even more charges.
On Sept. 19, he was arrested in Egg Harbor Township for aggravated assault on the woman — at the time his live-in girlfriend — and trying to get her to recant her statement to police, the charges state.
Clerico again posted bail — this time $10,000 full cash — and was released on a GPS monitor for one month. He now must report to court in person once each month.
He is currently suspended without pay.
