Fatal stoning not first murder charge for Atlantic City man

  • News
THOMAS GREEN An Atlantic City man accused of fatally stoning a man previously served time for murder, BreakingAC has learned. Thomas Green — known as "Partner" to many — was charged with murder Dec. 31, after the body of Ricky Ward was found stuffed in a trash can on the 1200 block of Adriatic Avenue. Ward, 52, was hit in the head multiple times with stones, according to the charges. In online posts, friends of Green expressed disbelief that he could have committed such a crime. But Department of Corrections records show he has served time for murder before. In 1977, Green was sent to state prison on a second-degree murder charge, records show. The charge is not listed in the courthouse's computer system, Promis Gavel, and the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office has not yet been able to provide any details. Green served less than 10 years, his DOC record shows, getting paroled Nov. 26, 1985. On April 3, 1987, he was sentenced to five years in prison for aggravated assault. He was released June 10, 1990, after maxing out on that sentence. He then got a drug possession charge in 1997, and was released Nov. 3, 1998. Since then, Green's record appears to be clean until last week. There has been no motive given for the killing. It also is not clear if the two men knew one another. Green had his first appearance on the new charges Jan. 4, when he seemed disoriented. He told Judge Bernard DeLury that he was "a King Green" and with the United Nations, and asked where "Holyfield" was, saying that was the name of the man "who got hit with the stones." Green is being held on $1 million full cash bail. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ch4UiBBlifA&t=11s
