Pleasantville officers injured on domestic violence call

  • News
Two Pleasantville police officers were injured trying to make a domestic violence-related arrest Friday morning. The suspect fought the officers as they responded to a call at Bay Harbor Village on South Main Street at about 10:30 a.m., Capt. Matt Hartman said. Patrolmen Daniel Davis and Juan Morillo arrived to find a woman injured. They tried to arrest the suspect, Keith Robinson Jr., who "violently resisted," and even tried to disarm Davis, Hartman said. Robinson was taken into custody with the help of several responding back-up units. Davis' hand was fractured and he also had an abrasion to his head from striking the concrete steps, along with leg injuries, Hartman said. Morillo also suffered leg injuries and contusions. The officers were taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center's City Campus in Atlantic City. Robinson was also taken after he complained of respiratory trouble following his arrest. He is charged with simple assault domestic, criminal restraint, aggravated assault on a police officer, attempting to disarm a police officer and two counts of resisting arrest. "I want to commend our officers for making an arrest of a violent suspect and obvious threat to our community," Chief Sean Riggin said. "While we would prefer never to need to use force, it is an unfortunate reality of police work and our officers can be counted on to defend themselves and crime victims when called upon to do so." He said the incident highlights the dangers his officers face daily "and their dedication to keep our town safe for everyone." The chief also thanked those that have flooded the department asking about the officers. "We expect they will be OK and back on the street protecting and serving Pleasantville very soon," Riggin said.
