Resident suffers severe injuries in Pleasantville fire

  • News
Firefighter
s rescued a man from a burning Pleasantville home Monday morning . The unnamed resident suffered severe internal burn injuries and is currently at Crozer-Chester Burn Center in Pennsylvania, police Capt. Matt Hartman said. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Firefighters and police were called to the condominium in the 1500 block of Sixth Avenue just before 6 a.m., to find the three-story, single-family home with heavy flames. Fire and rescue personnel immediately began fighting the fire and got the man out from the rear of the building's basement, according to the report. The fire spread to all three floors of the unit, extending to the attic/roof area. But the firefighters' aggressive attack kept the fire from spreading to an adjoining unit, Hartman said. That unit did suffer water and smoke damage. Pleasantville firefighters were assisted by the Atlantic City International Airport Fire Department, and the Absecon and Farmington Volunteer Fire Departments. Northfield covered Pleasantville's station while personnel was onscene. The fire was under control in an hour, but firefighters stayed on scene until about 11:30 a.m. The investigation is being conducted by Pleasantville Fire and Police departments, Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office and NJ State Fire Marshals Office.
