Atlantic City police arrested a man wanted in an assault and robbery about a half-hour after capturing a suspect in a separate assault Saturday.
It started with a domestic-related car theft late Saturday afternoon.
Jeremy Gordy was in a woman's car with her as the passenger when the two got into an argument at about 4:20 p.m. Saturday, Sgt. Kevin Fair said.
Gordy allegedly began striking the unnamed victim in the head with a handgun, so the woman got out of the vehicle and Gordy sped off, according to the report.
The vehicle was found a short time later, but Gordy had fled.
Just before 7 p.m., Officers Alberto Valles, Christopher Dodson, Anthony Moore and Ryan Mullin began searching the 1000 block of Ohio Avenue after Gordy was seen in the area. He ran from a residence and started to flee out the back when officers chased him several blocks then lost sight of him, Fair said.
They set up a perimeter and K-9 Officer Marinela Pali and her partner, Roxy, began to track Gordy. Roxy led officers to Gordy, who was hiding in the bushes in the 700 block of Trinity Avenue, according to the report.
Gordy, 28, of Atlantic City, was charged with aggravated assault, carjacking, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, theft and possession of a weapon by a convicted person.
He was taken to the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
About a half-hour later, as Valles, Dodson, Moore and Mullin were completing the arrest of Gordy, they were told a man wanted in a robbery and assault was at Lincoln and Hobart avenues.
Anthony Powell is accused of assaulting a 60-year-old man with a bat and robbing him of money at about 11:30 p.m. June 27.
An investigation by Detective Roberto Matos identified Powell as the attacker.
Powell ran from the officers, who caught him after several blocks, Fair said.
Powell, 20, of Atlantic City, is charged with robbery, aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon, resisting arrest and obstruction of justice.
He was taken to the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
