The Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office has subpoenaed three towns in an ongoing criminal investigation.
Margate, Ventnor and Atlantic City were issued grand jury subpoenas Friday, Prosecutor Damon Tyner announced Monday.
Like federal subpoenas the three towns received last month, they request all police, fire and city employees by name, date of birth and home address that have Express Scripts, Medco and/or NJ Direct as part of their health insurance plans. But the federal subpoenas were part of an investigation and a grand jury wasn't mentioned.
The subpoenas are part of an ongoing investigation. They likely mean that alleged lower-level suspects in the case will be charged on the state level rather than federal, a defense attorney told BreakingAC.
