A Vineland man's successful fight to withdraw his guilty plea ended up adding six years to his prison sentence.
Anthony Jackson, now 49, was sentenced to 24 years in prison Thursday after he was found guilty last year of a 2010 sexual assault of a woman inside her Vineland home, and assaulting one of her relatives while inside the home.
Jackson had pleaded guilty to aggravated sexual assault Feb. 6, 2014, when he was originally scheduled to go on trial. But, he later filed a motion to withdraw his plea, and the appellate division sent it back to trial.
Last August, a jury found him guilty of sexual assault and aggravated assault. He was acquitted of kidnapping, robbery, burglary and the aggravated sexual assault to which he originally pleaded.
Under the No Early Release Act, he must serve at least 85 percent of his term, or 20 years and three months, nearly five years more than required under the original sentence.
When he is released, he will be required to register under Megan's Law.
