Atlantic City police recover drugs after suspect tried to flush evidence

  • News
Two men were arrested Wednesday after an investigation sparked by a tip that there were drug deals in area. Atlantic City detectives were watching the 2000 block of Magellan Avenue after getting information that there were drug sales going on there, Sgt. Kevin Fair said. Jonathan Devonish was seen leaving a home and meeting with a man. When Detective Brian Hambrecht approached, he saw Devonish throw several bags of heroin to the ground, according to the report. Devonish, 51, was charged with possession of heroin, possession with intent to distribute and possession within 500 feet of a public zone. The other individual was not named or arrested. Back at Devonish's home, detectives found prescription pills and items that indicated drug dealing, Fair said. Detectives found Isiah Pettis in the bathroom with the toilet running after being flushed. Believing Pettis had flushed drugs, Detective William Warner searched the pipes and found 140 bags of heroin along with cocaine and marijuana packaged for sale, Fair said. Pettis, 25, of Atlantic City, was charged with four counts of drug possession, three counts each of possession with intent to distribute and possession within 500 feet of a public zone, and a count each of possession of drug paraphernalia and tampering with evidence. Both men were released on summonses pending a future court date.
