Four families lost loved ones to drug overdoses, Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon Tyner announced Thursday.
There are several investigations into the deaths related to heroin and/or fentanyl, and have been arrests, Tyner said.
The names are being withheld at this time.
He also pointed out that it was a week that saw thousands of bags of heroin taken off the streets in arrests in Linwood, Northfield and Atlantic City.
The street value of the approximately 10,500 total bags would have been worth about $63,000 on the street, Tyner said.
Tyner said that, despite law enforcement's goal to identify and prosecute those who deal drugs, that should not stop anyone from reporting a possible overdose. Those who make that call are for themselves or someone else are protected from prosecution under the state's Overdose Prevention Act.
