Longtime Galloway pediatrician remembered as one-of-a-kind

  • News

Tears were never seen at Dr. Cheul Kwon’s pediatric office.
“I never remember seeing kids in his office crying,” said former patient Valencia Terrell, who sent her children to the Galloway Township doctor as well. “It was like he had a gift.”
Kwon, 79, died last week in a crash in Ventnor. What caused his car to cross into the oncoming lane and strike a stopped NJ Transit bus is still under investigation.
Many mourned the passing of the beloved Galloway Township pediatrician.
“Dr. Kwon was truly one of a kind,” Jama Rhodes said of the doctor who treated her, her siblings and her oldest child. “I loved his bed side manner, and his staff was just as pleasant as he was.”
She said her brother wanted to keep seeing him as an adult, but insurance made him get a family doctor.
Edward Frederick said he too would have kept coming to Kwon even after his son started seeing him.
“He was the best pediatric doctor ever,” he said.
Kate Quintana and her three brothers all went to Kwon.
She remembered being about 10 years old when the doctor removed a tick from her shoulder.
“He made me feel so relaxed,” she said. “I remember not even crying about it.”
Any time Brittney Donohue would come in for an appointment, he would always give her a kiss on the forehead.
“He was an amazing doctor,” she said.
"I'm crushed," said Jen Biagi. "He was my pediatrician from the time I was 5 years old and all my kids and granddaughter up until he retired about five years. (He was a) wonderful man (and a) great person."
