Galloway rapper walking two days after being shot 10 times

  • News

A Galloway Township man shot 10 times in Absecon on Saturday night was up and walking Monday.
Laquan Rex, 25, was stopped at a red light at Route 30 and Shore Road at about 7:30 p.m.
"It happened so fast, I couldn't see anything but survival," Rex told BreakingAC on Monday.
The first three shots struck him as he crawled to the passenger side door.
"I was repeatedly getting shot, but I didn't feel it," said Rex, a rapper known as Weez100.
Once out of the car, he looked down to see how many times he had been shot, then collapsed.
But, somehow, a friend was there. He put Rex in his truck, and drove to the hospital, praying the whole way.
"The whole time making duas (invocation) and repeating la ilaha illa Allah (Muslim for there is no deity but God)," Rex said.
He thought of his 5-year-old daughter and asked for help from his cousin, Demond Cottman, who was killed outside the Hamilton Mall the day after Thanksgiving last year.
When police arrived, they found a Nissan Altima riddled with bullets but empty. T'hen they got the call that a shooting victim had been driven to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center's Mainland Campus in Galloway Township.
"If 'Monk' wasn't there to save me, I would've died," Rex said.
"Our family has strong faith in God, so even in the worst of times we believe He can turn it around for the good," Rex's uncle Michael Williams Jr. told BreakingAC.
Rex was transferred to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center's City Campus in Atlantic City, where he underwent surgery.
Video Rex shared on his Facebook page Monday shows him walking in the hospital, slowly but without assistance.
"I got shot 10 times (and) I'm still walking," he wrote.
In a post sharing the story of his shooting, Rex wrote: "Allah works miracles."
No arrests have been announced in the shooting.
Police said they are working on some good leads, and that the shooting is believed to be directly related to other violence in Atlantic County over the past year.
Rex said he doesn't know who would have done this. He just wants to concentrate on getting better.
"Since being in the hospital, I feel like I fought the worst of the fight," he said. "I'm (going to) keep fighting. I'm pushing myself for a fast recovery (and) just thanking Allah every chance I can ."
