Man threatening 'suicide by cop' at A.C. parole office leaves unharmed

  • News
A man who ransacked a parole office in Atlantic City and asked for "suicide by cop," was talked out of the building unharmed Thursday. Police were called the New Jersey State Parole Office on the first block of south Pennsylvania Avenue just after 3 p.m. for an agitated man, Sgt. Kevin Fair said. Officers found the man in an office that he had ransacked, Fair said. The unnamed man — who Fair confirmed is on parole — told officers he wanted them to shoot and kill him, according to the report. Members of the department’s Emergency Response Team including SWAT and crisis negotiators responded. Crisis negotiators were able to talk with the man, and just after 4 p.m., he surrendered without any force used. The man was not armed, and was taken to the AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center's City Campus for evaluation.
