Buena double homicide victims identified

  • News

Two people killed in a shooting in Buena Borough early Saturday morning, Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon Tyner said.
The two have been identified as Damon Jones, 34, of Bridgeton, and Talisa Colon, 23, of Vineland.
A 911 call made to police at 1:19 a.m. reported shots fired, and that someone may have been struck.
Police arrived in the 408 Wheat Road to find the man and woman dead inside a vehicle. Their relationship to one another has not been released.
Jones was all about his family, said former girlfriend Simone Mason.
The father of three "was funny (and) down to earth," she said. "Everybody loved him. (He was) always there if you needed him."
Facebook was filled with tributes to Colon, known to her friends as Nena. She was remembered as a loving friend who was always there to help.
The autopsies began at about 9:30 a.m. Sunday. Those results are expected to be released Monday.
While not naming the establishment, the Prosecutor's Office released the address of the MVP Sports Bar, which has a large parking lot.
The investigation is ongoing in a joint effort between the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office Major Crimes Unit, Buena Borough police, Vineland police, Millville police, the Cumberland County Prosecutor's Office, U.S. Marshals Service and the New Jersey State Police Major Crimes Unit.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Prosecutor's Office at 609-909-7800 or go to the online tip line here. Information may also be submitted anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 609-652-1234.
