Charity flag football event will honor Atlantic City man killed in Black Friday shooting

  • Community

The family of an Atlantic City native lost to violence is hoping to create an annual game that will capture his spirit and raise funds for the son he left behind. ]

The first annual Oskii's World Charity Football Event will honor Demond Cottman, who was known to his friends as Oskii.

Cottman was a 21-year-old new father and husband when he was killed in a shooting outside Hamilton Mall early Nov. 25, 2016, the day after Thanksgiving.

No one has been arrested in that shooting, which also wounded Cottman's older brother, Shadi Cottman.

Now, eldest brother Rob Cottman is looking to have an annual flag football game that will honor his baby brother's love of sports, teamwork and fun.

The event will be held from 1 to 6 p.m. July 14 at  Oscar McClinton Waterfront Park. But spots are already filling up for the one-round elimination that will include four or eight teams, depending upon interest. Participants must be at least 18 years old.

The cost is $35 per player, which will benefit his son, Ayyub, who will turn 2 in May.
