An Atlantic City woman who admitted to stabbing her son's girlfriend last year was sentenced to probation and an ankle monitor Friday.
Ivonne Herrera, 46, was off her medication for her mental health issues March 3, 2017, when she attacked the woman with a large butcher knife, defense attorney Matthew Leonard said.
Police were called to the 2300 block of Atlantic Avenue at about 5:45 p.m. for the report of a woman threatening people in the area with the knife,
police said at the time.
Herrera originally refused numerous orders to drop the knife, but eventually did, according to the report.
Herrera stabbed her son’s 26-year-old girlfriend, according to the charges. When her son, also 26, heard his girlfriend scream, he tried to stop his mother, and was cut in the finger, according to the report.

She pleaded guilty to third-degree aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Herrera, who required a Spanish interpreter, did not address the court at sentencing.
She had a history of drug use, her attorney said.
Herrera has 14 prior arrests and six convictions, Superior Judge Bernard DeLury said, including contempt and drug-related offenses.
She was sentenced to 364 days in jail, with 182 days of credit. But she will be able to serve the remainder of the sentence on home electronic detection. She then will be on probation for three years.
