Sentencings postponed for five who pleaded in Kauffman drug case

  • News
Sentencings have been moved for five people who admitted involvement in the prescription drug ring of Dr. James Kauffman. Kauffman's wife, April, was killed May 10, 2012, after he allegedly planned her death to keep the drug ring hidden. The Linwood doctor was charged in his wife's killing last year, but was found dead of an apparent suicide before he was indicted. Ferdinand "Freddy" Augello was convicted of murder and other charges in the local radio host's death, and is set to be sentenced Wednesday. He also was convicted on a racketeering charge for the drug enterprise. Five others, including Augello's former wife, pleaded guilty in the drug case, and testified against him at trial. Only one co-defendant, Paul Pagano, has maintained his innocence and will go to trial. A date has not yet been set. Beverly Augello, Joseph Mulholland, Glenn Seeler, Cheryl Pizza and Tabitha Chapman were scheduled to be sentenced Thursday, the day after Augello. But the sentencing has now been moved to Feb. 7, Breaking AC as told. Chapman, who pleaded guilty to a possession charge, is still awaiting a decision on whether she will be accepted into pretrial intervention, which would mean she could avoid a criminal sentence if she completes a program.
