  • News

An Atlantic City man on probation for theft was arrested with cocaine and heroin after police received a tip through the department's anonymous texting system. Detectives began investigating Farod Chapman after receiving the tip411 message. Tip411 allows people to interact with police via text without being identified. They found him with 35 bags of heroin and five grams of cocaine and arrested him at 1:09 p.m., according to the report. Detectives searched Chapman's vehicle after Brian Hambrecht's K-9 partner, Nikki, indicatd there were drugs, Sgt. Kevin Fair said. They found an additional 250 bags of heroin, Fair said. The investigation was led by Sgt. Richard Andrews and Detective Nick Berardis. Chapman, 25, was found with about $1,600 worth of marijuana — more than 162 grams — in 2015, according to police at that time. He is on probation for a theft charge to which he pleaded guilty last year, court records show. This time, Chapman was released on a summons. Anyone who wants to share a tip via tip411 should just text the number (847411) and begin the text with ACPD. Information can also be called in to police at 609-347-5766 or Crime Stoppers at 609-652-1234.
